Greg Adkins - Biography
Our
pastor, Greg Adkins was called to preach at the age of 14
years--called out of a world of sin and darkness into God's
wonderful light. He faced many obstacles and had to stand
face-to-face with many giants having to live in an unsaved household.
He had to pray his way through in those early years.
Every Sunday morning, he would have to set his own clock and find a
his own way to church. His heart was set on fire by the Holy Ghost and
it could not be quenched by anything except MORE of God. As it
is written in Amos 7:14-15, "14Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was
an herdman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruit: And the LORD took me
as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy
unto my people Israel."
He
was filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost in his closet when he
read in Matthew 6:5; "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into
thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father
which is in secret..." Being a young man and a new convert he
took that verse for what it said and really prayed in his closet.
Brother Greg was saved on August 30, 1989 and filled with the Holy
Ghost two weeks later in his home. On September 29, 1989, he
preached his first message in Elba, Alabama at Elba Deliverance
Tabernacle. He preached during his last four years of high
school in youth services, at revivals, and during regular church
services. He also had his a radio broadcast. When he
graduated from high school in 1993 he started college. He only
attended for two weeks and felt such a heavy pull to to the
evangelistic field that he walked out of Enterprise Junior College.
After he left college that day, he lifted his head and cried out to God; "OK
God...I will go, but I only have two Sundays scheduled...I will go
if You will keep me busy!" God DID keep him busy--for the next 8 1/2 years he
would barely slow down at all. He never had to call anyone to
ask to preach and he always had services booked somewhere. The blessings just kept pouring in!
His work for God gave him the privilege of seeing hundreds saved, delivered, and healed.
At
the age of 26, God moved him in a different direction. God
began to settle him down and he felt a call to pastor. He has always
had a burden for southeast Alabama since the day God saved him.
He wanted his home area (the Wiregrass) to experience what had
experienced for the previous 8 1/2 years. His dream...his
vision...his call at Refuge Pentecostal Church is only into the
early dawn. And we eagerly anticipate the day when the full
light of God shines down and the fire from heaven truly falls on
Refuge Pentecostal Church. Every service is a revival and each one
gets better and better through the power of Almighty God!
Just seven months after starting Refuge Pentecostal Church, he
married the love of his life; Jessica. They now have 4
children James, Kayleigh, Kayden Gregory, and Kammie Grayce.
Over the past six years at Refuge Pentecostal Church, we have had
dozens of young ministers come by to preach for us that have been
touched by his ministry over the past years.
His
burden for this generation has also birthed one of the greatest youth
conferences in the USA - The Southeastern Youth Conference.
The SEYC still holds steadfast to the influence of our church forefathers
in promoting a conservative way of life. It has grow every
year for the last five years, with over 1,500 in attendance in 2007.
The SEYC is held every year beginning on the the second Friday of
March.
His
ministry just keeps on growing and excelling in every area;
pastor, evangelist, teacher, and even now taking him into more
foreign fields. He is very thankful for everyone who has been such
an influence in his life and who has played a part in his ministry.
For
all those he has seen recently and those he as not seen for a while,
he talks about you in almost every service at Refuge Pentecostal
Church. He know that it is God's wonderful people that helps
makes us what we are.
Once a "nobody from nowhere," God has raised up a voice for
this generation. That voice is the Rev. Greg Adkins.
